KHAYER LAKE TREKKING

Tucked between the Annapurna Base Camp and Jomsom trekking trail, off the beaten trail of Khayer Lake Trekking is in Annapurna region has recently grab popularity. Besides the exceptional Himalayan views and absolute landscapes, the trek bestows the warm hospitality of the Gurung and Magar people. This 13 days long Khayer Lake trek initiates from Kathmandu/Pokhara and drive to Nayapul. We will trek towards Ghandruk (1940m); beautiful Gurung village located in western Nepal and then to Dobato (3,460m) via Tadapani. The trekking trials are accompanied by uplifted views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre, amazing landscapes and small ancient villages. As the trek goes further, we will trek towards Khopra ridge leaving behind the Annapurna Circuit route. After reaching Khopra ridge, we will reach out towards Khayer Lake (4,500m) which is the highest point of our trek. The trek then heads towards Ghorepani via Swanta village where you can relish the mountain delights and our trek ends at Nayapul with the drive back to Pokhara/Kathmandu.

  • Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu, 1,350m.

  • Day 2: Fly/Drive to Pokhara 6 to 7 Hrs.

    We drive to Pokhara (6-7 hours), another prominent and beautiful city of Nepal. A flight of 25 minutes is an additional option for those desiring to skip the drive. However, the drive has perks of great views of hills, mountains, and rivers.

  • Day 3: Drive to Nayapul, trek to Ghandruk 1,940m, 5 to 6 Hrs.

    After staying overnight in the city, we drive for an hour to Nayapul that translates to ‘new bridge’. This place stands as a gateway to Annapurna conservation area. Warm up for our trekking journey has initiated as we trek northward through rice terraces, teahouses, and stupas to the charming Gurung village of Ghandruk overlooking the giant Himalayas.

  • Day 4: Trek to Tadapani 2,721m, 4 hrs.

    We bid farewell to the village ascending west to continue our trekking on the trail that leads to the Annapurna Base camp. Every step forward through deep jungles and hiking uphill amazes you with different panoramas en route Tadapani.

  • Day 5: Trek to Dobato 3,460 m, 5-6 Hrs.

    We continue our altitude gain as we head north on a lovely trek to Dobato. The path is filled with rhododendron and bamboo forests, pasturelands, mostly uphill hikes and finally meets a small river after which we reach Dobato.

  • Day 6: Trek to Chhistibung 3,100m, 5 hrs.

    Each day’s trekking expedition bestows more clear and proximate view of mountains especially Annapurna ranges and Dhaulagiri. Our route today traverses several hills and valleys to reach the farming village of Chhistibung which lies on the lap of Khopra ridge.

  • Day 7: Trek to Khopra ridge 4,020m 6 hrs.

    The trek for today can get a bit difficult as we constantly hike a steeply uphill path. The first half goes through the forest, afterward through bush and meadow. Our hard work is rewarded with the unobstructed view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains that look too close and surreal from the top of the ridge.

  • Day 8: Rest day in Khopra Ridge, trek of Khayer Lake 4,500m 8-9 hrs.

    It can be the best morning of your life, waking up to marvel the sun rising from Annapurna peaks to the east and its beams striking the Dhaulagiri to the west. We hike up on the steep slope of the mighty Annapurna mountain range itself to reach Khayer Lake. The pristine lake sits in the lap of Annapurna South (7,219) making it a breathtaking view to witness. After reveling in the beauty and taking gigabytes of snaps we take a u-turn descending back to Khopra ridge.

  • Day 9: Trek to Swanta Village 2,200m, 5-6 Hrs.

    Contrary to previous treks, this trek is all downhill through the rhododendron and oak forests, terraced hills, and villagers enduring their livelihood on our way to Swanta village.

  • Day 10: Trek to Ghorepani 2,855m, 4-5 Hrs.

    Today we hike past narrow and rugged trials and more farming communities and escalate towards the high vantage point of Ghorepani. We take a well-deserved slumber to get ready for a pre-dawn trip the next day.

  • Day 11: Morning sunrise & trek to Nayapul (820m) 5-6 hrs, drive back to Pokhara.

    We ascend to the Poonhill lookout point before daybreak to relish the sun rising and brightening the mountain peaks of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri. Such spellbinding view is enough to recharge us for a trek downhill to Nayapul where we reconvene with our bus and drive back to Pokhara.

  • Day 12: Fly/Drive to Kathmandu.

    This astonishing trek comes to an official end as we leave Pokhara and return to the busy and hastening Kathmandu city. Some rearmost moments in this country can be spent relaxing around the nightlife or resting as desired.
