Mount Everest 3 High Pass Trek map

This is a Route Map with Altitude Chart for Mount Everest 3 High Pass Trek (21 DAYS), also known as THREE PASS TREK. The trek starts from Lukla (2,800 meters) and asks for a total of 18 days, The trail also requires crossing the Renjo-La Pass (5,360 meters) first, the Chola Pass (5,300 meters) then and Kongma-La Pass (5,535 meters) next. In addition, the route takes all traversing to Gokyo-Ri at 5,483 meters, the Everest Base Camp at 5,380 meters and Kalapather, the trip’s highest point at an altitude of 5,643 meters, before ending the walk once back in Lukla.

Kathmandu (1,350 meters) to Lukla (2,800 meters)

Kathmandu is where your trek begins and ends at. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will get you into your hotel. You will have a comfortable stay in one of the hotels here at Thamel.

You will get to interact with your team and your guides for the trek. We will host you a Nepali dinner too.

You will have a spare day before your actual trek. You can tour around the tourists' destinations and the world heritage sites around Kathmandu.

A short flight from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu will take you to Lukla. From Lukla, the real trek begins.

Lukla (2,800 meters) to Phakding (2,652 meters). 3 - 4 hours Walk

From Lukla, the gateway to EBC, you will begin walking. The route starts with a descent through beautiful Chaurikharka village.

While continuing, you will descend down to Thado Khola. Witnessing the beautiful Himalayan weather and sceneries, walking through the banks of the Dudh Koshi River along with several chortens, prayer flags, and mani walls, you will reach Phakding.

Overnight in Phakding. There are plenty of teahouses and lodges at Phadking for a comfortable stay.

Phakding (2,652 meters) to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters). 5 - 6 hours Walk

Starting in the morning after a toothsome breakfast in Phakding, you will trek to Namche. Namche is the busiest Sherpa town in the Everest region.

You will start by walking across the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Passing through the beautiful Sherpa villages you will reach Jorshale.

On crossing the High Hillary Bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, you will trek to the Top Danda. From there you will see your first view of Mt. Everest and other stunning peaks.

The Everest Base Camp three pass trek is a high altitude trek. You will be at 5420 meters while crossing the Cho La pass. This trek requires a proper acclimatization schedule.

Acclimatization day at Namche

Namche Bazaar is a bustling tourist hub. There are lots of cafes, and unique places to explore. On the acclimatization day, you will have a short hike up to the Everest View Hotel.

Overnight at a tea house or lodge at Namche.

Namche (3,440 meters) to Thame (3,800 meters). 4 - 5 hours Walk

From Namche Bazaar, you will start ascending uphill. The hike involves a remarkable walk through the dense green forests of pine, juniper, birch, and rhododendron. On the route, you will follow a river gorge and cross many small streams.

You will encounter Buddhist Stupas, prayer paintings, and player flags too. Enjoying the splendid views of gigantic peaks, you will reach the Sherpa village of Thame.

At Thame, you can have a rest while enjoying the warm drinks and snacks that the tea houses offer. From the Thame village, a short and steep climb uphill takes you to the Thame Monastery, the place of spirituality. You can enjoy the ceremony when the Lamas pray with chants and healing sounds of horns and drums.

After a lovely time at the monastery, you will return to your tea house for a hot dinner. Overnight at Thame.

Thame (3,800 meters) to Marulung (4,210 meters). 5-6 hours Walk

Starting at Thame, after walking over a shallow pass, you will reach Tomboche. From there, you will walk to a river valley. The valley is full of rubble and boulder.

You will see the snow-clad mountain ranges nearer. After a hike over hard and hurdles, you will reach Marulung.

Once there you will enjoy a hot dinner and a quick sleep in a tea house at Maruleng.

Marlung (4,210 meters) to Lungden (4,380 meters). 2 - 3 hours Walk.

After a warm and filling breakfast at the tea house in Marlung, get ready for a hike up to Lungden. This hike is a sort of acclimatization hike.

Enjoying the splendid views of spectacular Himalayas so near, you will walk to Lungden.

There are few tea houses in Lungden where you can stay overnight. You will have time for rest and relaxation.

Enjoy your day at Lungden and stay there for overnight.

Lungden (4,380 meters) – Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters) - Gokyo (4,800 meters). 8-9 hours Walk

You will start at Lungden after a filling breakfast. From Lungden, you will trek to Gokyo via Renjo La pass. The walk is strenuous as it involves crossing the Renjo La pass.

At first, you will ascend the trail from Lungden unless you reach the big pastures and stone huts at the top. From the top, you will see splendid views of the valley below and the towering peaks including Cho Oyu. The trail now flattens as you walk towards the Renjo La Pass.  

Continuing the trail, witnessing the spectacular scenarios, you will reach to the top of Renjo-La (5,316m). The Renjo La Pass is one of the best viewpoints of the entire trek. The pass exhibits incredible mountain vistas. Also, you will get the best sight of the entire Gokyo Valley.

From the pass, the trail is a descend down through a rugged moraine trail. Finally, you will reach the bank of the Gokyo Lake where the Gokyo village sits. Gokyo village is one of the highest altitude settlements in the world.

Gokyo Village (4,800 meters) to Gokyo Ri (5,357 meters). 4 hours Walk

From the Gokyo village, you will start early in the morning to Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri is a beautiful vantage point to see the sunrise views over Mt Everest and Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Cho Oyu.  Gokyo Ri is the best viewpoint to see the best views of Gokyo lakes, Gokyo village, and the Ngopnma glacier, the largest glacier in the Nepalese Himalayas.

Gokyo (4,800 meters) to Thaknak (4,750 meters). 4-5 hours Walk.

From Gokyo, you will trek to Thaknak. The walk is enjoyable. You will be surrounded by a Himalayan atmosphere. Walking along the rugged trail while enjoying the great natural scenarios is an awesome experience.

Overnight at a tea house in Thangnak.

Cross the Cho-La Pass (5,420 meters) and down to Dzongla (4,830m). 7-8 hours Walk

Starting from Thangnak, you will continue towards the Cho La base through an ascending trail. The Cho-La Base Camp is at high altitude. So, the temperature there is quite cold.

Walking over the snowy and icy trails up to the top of Cho La pass is physically challenging. From the pass, you will walk along the snowy trail to Zongla. You can see a great view of Mt. Cholatse and Mt. Amadablam from Dzongla.

Overnight in a teahouse in Dzongla.

Dzongla (4,830 meters) to Lobuche (4,940 meters). 4-5 hours Walk

The route is slightly uphill. But most of the trail involves flat sections. On the way, while you feel tired, you can stop for a moment to view the beautiful lakes and the stunning Mt. Ama Dablam.

On the trails to Lobuche, you will walk through the highland pastures and the most exotic sceneries of the Himalayan landscapes.

Lobuche is a small Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu region. You will find tea houses at Lobuche where you can stay overnight.

Lobuche (4,940 meters) to Gorak Shep (5,170 meters) to Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters). 8 - 9 hours Walk.

From Lobuche, you walk through the trail of the Everest Base Camp Trek. First, you will walk towards Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep is a beautiful village near the Everest Base Camp.

After reaching Gorak Shep, you will check into a teahouse for an overnight stay. After resting for a while, it’s time to trek to the Everest Base Camp. You can leave your luggage at the tea house.

A memorable hike from Gorak Shep takes you to the Everest Base Camp. You will enjoy your splendid moments at the base camp. The gorgeous sceneries of the Himalayas are breathtaking.

Spending some time on the lap of Everest you will descend down to the tea house at Gorak Shep for your overnight stay.

Hike up to Kala Patthar (5,545 meters) and Descend to Lobuche (4,940 meters). 7 - 8 hours Walk

From Gorak Shep, you will walk to the best vantage point in the Everest region, Kala Patthar. The impressive view of Mount Everest, Khumbu glacier, stunning lakes, and the snow-covered peaks is amazing from this point.

After enjoying the sightseeing at Kala Patthar, you will descend down to Lobuche for the overnight stay.

Lobuche (4,940 meters) to Kongma La (5,535 meters) to Chhukung (4730 meters). 8-9 hours Walk

Starting at Lobuche we’ll ascend uphill towards the Kongma La pass. The pass is also a high altitude pass. Crossing it can be challenging and physically more demanding yet, scenic at the same time.

After crossing the pass, you will descend down to Chukkung, a small Sherpa settlement. Overnight at a tea house in Chhukung.

Chhukung (4,730 meters) to Tengboche (3,860 meters). 5-6 hours Walk

Following the bank of Imja Khola, you will leave Chhukung village.  Along the way, you will walk across lovely villages at Pangboche, Dingboche, Orsho, and Shomare.

Following the trails of the Khumbu region, you will cross the hamlets of Milingo and Deboche and you will reach Tengboche. Overnight at a tea house in Tengboche.

Tengboche (3,860 meters) to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters). 5-6 hours Walk

Tengboche to Namche Bazaar is a walk down to the valley floor. Exploring the best scenic views of the giant peaks in the Everest region, you will descend back to Namche. After a long trek to the remote regions, you will finally be at the busy Sherpa town, Namche.

Overnight at a lodge or teahouse at Namche.

Namche (3,440 meters) to Lukla (2,800 meters). 6-7 hours Walk

This is the final day of the EBC three high pass trek where you will be bidding goodbye to the snow-capped Himalayas on your walk back to the Lukla village. On leaving Namche Bazar, you will walk back the trails that pass through several Sherpa settlements. The mani walls, chortens, and the prayer flags keep you moving on the trail. On walking across the banks of the Dudh Koshi river, you will have a most amazing time.

Lukla to Kathmandu. 45 minutes Flight

On this day, you will leave early in the morning form Lukla village on a scenic flight. This flight will allow you to share the farewell with the Everest region. Once in Kathmandu, you can either take rest or relax in the town.
