The Cho La Pass trek is an adventurous high altitude trek in the Everest region in Nepal. The trek takes you to the Cho La pass. During the trek, you will trek into beautiful settlements of the legendary Himalayan Sherpas. This trek takes you to the base camp of Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world.

This trek takes you to the beautiful Gokyo valley and Gokyo Ri. It combines the Everest Base Camp trek and the Gokyo Valley Trekking.  You can enjoy the fascinating views of mountains like Mt. Everest,  Lhotse, Cho Oyo, Makalu, and others. This trek also rewards you with eyeful views of glistening mountains and glaciers.

This trek rewards the trekkers with cultural as well as natural diversities. The age-old traditions and cultures of the Sherpas are inspiring. You will see lots of prayer flags, chortens, and monasteries on the trail.

Walking into the Sagarmatha National park, there are chances of seeing Wild Musk Deer, Panda, Snow Leopard, Mountain Goat, and colorful “Pheasants”. During the trek, you will walk across the pine and juniper forests.

During the treks to the Everest Region in Spring, you will see the colorful trails. You will see the rhododendron and magnolia florals along the path.

This amazing trek begins in Kathmandu. A mountain flight will take you to Lukla from where you’ll begin to trek. The trail moves towards Phakding, Dudh Koshi valley to Namche Bazaar. From there, you will trek to the Gokyo Valley and to the Everest Base Camp on crossing Cho la Pass.

Kathmandu to Lukla

Lukla: 2800 meters

Flight Duration: 30 mins   

You will arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You can enjoy your stay in a comfortable hotel. Enjoy the evening dinner hosted by the Index Adventure team. You can meet with your trip members, guides, and porters there.

Kathmandu is the place where the trek starts and ends at. On the following day, you will fly to Lukla early in the morning. You will board on a domestic flight from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

The flight is a short and scenic flight. You can enjoy the aerial views of the stunning mountains, valleys, and the entire Everest region. You will land at Lukla airport, 2860 meters. From Lukla, you will begin the real trek towards Phakding.

Lukla to Phakding

Phakding: 2652 meters

Trekking Duration: 3 to 4 hours

Trekking Distance: 9 kilometers

You will walk towards Phakding via a beautiful trail. You will walk across the riverbank of the Dudh Kosi river and cross many suspension bridges. Today, you will walk across the beautiful Rhododendron forests.

You will reach Phakding village. Phakding is a beautiful Sherpa village. There are many hotels and guest houses there. Overnight in Phakding.

 

Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar: 3440 meters

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trekking Distance: 12 kilometers

Today, you will trek to the Sherpa town of the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar. The trail is exotic. You will cross many suspension bridges on your way to Namche. Right before Namche, there is a steep ascent.

You will reach the first viewpoint of Everest. On a clear day, you can see a beautiful view of Mt. Everest and its neighboring peaks from there.

Namche is a busy place. You will meet lots of locals and tourists there. Overnight at a hotel in Namche.

Rest Day at Namche Bazaar

Everest View Hotel: 3880 meters

Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Chola Pass Trekking is a high altitude trekking in the Everest region. The chances of getting altitude sickness are higher if you do not acclimatize well.

So, today is your acclimatization day. You will take a short acclimatization hike to the Everest View Hotel. On the way, you will come across the Khumjung village. Khumjung is a delightful Sherpa village above Namche.

The Everest View Hotel is a popular spot to view a wonderful panorama of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tawche, Thamserku, etc.

You will trek down to Namche for an overnight stay.

Namche Bazaar to Dole

Dole: 4040 meters

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trekking Distance: 6.9 kilometers

You’ll begin to trek early in the morning today. Setting off from Namche Bazaar, you will walk towards the village of Dole. On the way, you can enjoy the splendid views of some of the snowy peaks. Rejoice the vistas of the surrounding mountains.

On your way, you can see the cultivable lands and beautiful vegetations. As you trek towards Dole, you will come across the cultivations. People in Dole grow crops for their use and for income.

You can observe the traditional practices of Sherpa people. You will see prayer flags hanging. You will walk past some small Sherpa villages before arriving at Dhole.

Overnight in Dhole.

Dole to Machharmo

Machharmo: 4470 meters

Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Trekking Distance: 4.023 kilometers

You will start early in the morning after a nice breakfast in Dole. Walking through the beautiful Dole village, you will walk towards Machharmo.

This part of the trek includes climbing over the terminal moraine of Ngozumpa glacier. Ngozumpa is the longest glacier in Nepal’s Himalayas. The glacier spreads its icy fingers towards you as you walk. The glacier is one of the major attractions of the Chola Pass trek.

You can enjoy the views of admirable valleys and the snowy peaks towering over the clouds. You will reach Machharmo where you will stay for an overnight.

Trek to Gokyo

Gokyo: 4800 meters

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trekking Distance: 6.8 kilometers

Today, you will walk to Gokyo Village. Gokyo is a beautiful village on the bank of Dudh Pokhari, the third Gokyo lake. You can enjoy the mesmerizing views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Lhotse, Makalu, Mt. Cholatse and Mt. Tawache above the lake.

There are few lodges and tea houses in the Gokyo village. Overnight in Gokyo village.

Rest Day in Gokyo

Gokyo Ri: 5483 meters

Trekking Duration: 3 to 4 hours

Elevation Gain: 600 meters

Today is your second acclimatization day. You will climb an uphill trail to Gokyo Ri early in the morning. Gokyo Ri, 5483 is the best viewpoint of the snowy mountains and the turquoise Gokyo lakes. You will see the mesmerizing scenery from the Gokyo Ri.

You will see the majestic views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Mt. Tawache. After spending some time there, you will trek back to the Gokyo village. Spend the rest of your day by resting or walking around the village. Overnight in the Gokyo Village.

Gokyo to Thaknak

Thaknak: 4750 meters

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trekking Distance: 8 kilometers

Gokyo to Thaknak is a short and beautiful trail. You will trek through a beautiful trail through the Ngajumpa glacier. You can enjoy the splendid views of the Himalayas and the Gokyo lakes.

The trail follows a valley past Longpongo, 4690m. This is the first Gokyo lake. There, you can also see the Lama footprints on a stone. You will also see the second lake, Taboche Tsho. You will love the mesmerizing views. The shimmering turquoise blue water looks incredible.

You will reach Thaknak, your destination for the day. Overnight in a tea house.

Thaknak to Dzongla

Dzongla: 4830 meters

Trekking Duration: 7 to 8 hours

Trekking Distance: 9.5 km

This day, you will start to walk early in the morning. You will walk for nearly three hours before you get on top of the Chola. From there, you will walk for half an hour over iced trails before you reach the Chola Pass.

The trek is a difficult one. Crossing the Cho-La Pass is quite strenuous. In favorable weather, you can cross the pass without using any equipment. Wear something warm because you will walk above ice there.

The path skirts around the ridge and descends down to Dzongla. Overnight in Dzongla.

Dzongla to Lobuche

Lobuche: 4940 meters

Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Trekking Distance: 4 kilometers

You will start after a morning breakfast in Dzongla. The trail is beautiful. You will see a beautiful view of  Pheriche and Dhugla. Also, you will get some stunning views of the mountains.

You will follow the riverbank of the Lobuche Khola. Take the trail heading towards the settlement in Dzongla. Overnight at Dzongla in a tea house.

Lobuche to Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp and Back to Gorak Shep

Gorak Shep: 5170 meters

Everest Base Camp: 5364 meters

Trekking Duration:7 to 8 hours

Trekking Distance: 11.4 kilometers

Today is a long day. You will start early in the morning at Lobuche. From there, you will follow the narrow gap between the glacial moraine and mountains. You will see a close-up view of the Khumbu glacier from the edge of the moraine.

You will walk along a windy and rocky path. You will see splendid views of Mt. Pumori, Nuptse and others on your way to Gorakshep. Gorakshep was the original Everest Base Camp. The new camp is, now, above the valley.

You will continue towards the Everest Base Camp after having lunch at Gorakshep. The trail is hard. You must walk over rocky dunes, moraine, and streams. The base camp is beautiful. You will meet at the climbers during the climbing seasons.

On this day, you will have an amazing time exploring the base camp area. You’ll enjoy the surrounding views of the gigantic massifs. After some time, you will return back to Gorakshep. Overnight stay in Gorak Shep.

Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar to Pheriche

Pheriche: 4280 meters

Kala Patthar: 5643 meters

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trekking Distance: 8 kilometers

Today, you will hike up to the best vantage point of Everest, Kala Patthar. In a clear morning, the hike to Kala Patthar is the best one. From Kala Patthar, you will see the most beautiful mountain views.

You will see the dramatic 360-degree panorama of Mt Everest and other surrounding peaks like Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Mt. Thamserku.

You get to enjoy the magnetic views of Mt.Tawoche and Mt. Nuptse as you trek back to Pheriche. Pheriche is a beautiful Sherpa village. Overnight at the village of Pheriche.

Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar: 3440 meters

Trekking Duration: 8 to 9 hours

Trekking Distance: 22 kilometers

Today, you will follow the trail through the villages of Dingboche and Tengboche. On your way, you can encounter the lifestyle, traditions, and culture of the Himalayan Sherpas. Dingboche village is a large village. You can also visit the popular Tengboche monastery in Tengboche village.

Enjoy the exotic landscapes, beautiful waterfalls, and the forested trails. You will finally arrive at the capital town of the Sherpas in the Khumbu region, Namche.

Namche is a beautiful place. You will see lots of shops selling some local products. There are cafes where you can stay for a cup of coffee. Today is your last day at the buzzing hub in Namche.

Overnight at a lodge or guesthouse in Namche.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Lukla: 2800 meters

Trekking Duration: 6 - 8 hours

Trekking Distance: 19.8 kilometers

You will follow back the previous trekking trail to Lukla from Namche Bazaar. Enjoy the trek. Today is your last day on the trek. You will descend to the river bank of the Dudh Kosi river. You will cross many suspension bridges over the river. You will walk across the beautiful vegetation. The Rhododendron forests along the trail are lovely.

After arriving at Lukla, get some rest. Overnight in Lukla.

Lukla to Kathmandu

On the following morning, you will fly back to Kathmandu in a plane from Lukla airport. Bid a farewell to the enchanting Himalayas.

After arriving in Kathmandu, you can stroll around the streets of Kathmandu. You can enjoy our farewell dinner at a Nepalese restaurant.
