Mardi Lower Base Camp Weather and Temperature

Mardi lower Base camp lies at the elevation of 2,990 meters. The average maximum and minimum temperatures of Mardi Lower Base Camp are 21-degree centigrade and - 2-degree centigrade respectively.

It means during days you will feel much hot weather where you will get the best visibility. And, to your bonus, you can do this trek in light clothes during the day.

March to May, the season of flowers, plants, and animals, walking to the Mardi Himal Low Camp is also possible and easier. This is the end of the dry season and the best time for trekking. Therefore, it is better to trek here at this very season.

Forest base Camp

Low camp and High camp

As you climb to the lower base camp, the view of flora and fauna; mosses and lichen, tree ferns and orchids is bound to enchant you. There are natural windows in the woods that look out onto thrilling panoramas – towards Hiunchuli and the knife-sharp traverse towards Annapurna South.

Far below, to our left, we can see the Modi Khola Valley leading up into the Annapurna Sanctuary. Though still surrounded by forest, you will get to have a spectacular northerly view of the ever-closer ‘Fishtail’.

Just a short, steep climb and we are out of the forest. A ridge, now grassy and sometimes under snow, takes us up to High Camp.

Mardi Base Camp

With a packed lunch, you will set off to reach your objective. Conditions being favourable, you should reach up to 5,000m and only the crest of Mardi Himal itself separates you from the south face of Machhapuchhre.

The great ice fields and blue glaciers of the Sanctuary Wall lie below. Annapurna I, highest of all is beyond, and around us, and an arc from horizon to horizon, from Dhaulagiri to the Ganesh Himal. There are a dozen or more glistening snow-bound giants.

As you stand by, you will see you are at a spot that has been your constant aim for days now. A place, a time, a view that is almost impossible to equal and you’ve earned it. Afterwards, you need to descend, returning to the welcome steaming mug, the hot food, the shelter of High Camp.

(If weather conditions require it, you shall descend through High Camp to trek on down to a re-established Low Camp to spend the night there.)

Siddhing village

This is a different route down – down to the upper Mardi Khola, the torrent that has been the ice and snow of the Mardi Himal.

Although remote and still away from all the much-used ‘Tea-house’ trekking routes, our expedition now takes on the mood of the arm valley and the friendly villages.

Here you make your way along the banks of the Mardi Khola from the hillside village of Siding, down through the lovely fields, past the simple farms and over the interesting bridges. There is no doubt this is indeed idyllic Nepali countryside.

Lwang Village

The path from Siding now follows the contour of the river valley gradually down between the pastures and through Tamang and Gurung villages. You can see the refined texture of varied cultures in here.

Further on the trail, there’s the road, and there’s the transport. Soon as you will be back to Pokhara at your Base Camp marking the end of the expedition.

Food and Accommodation in Mardi Himal trek:

There are many tea shops along the way to the Mardi Base Camp. These tea shops are very hospitable and polite. The taste of brewing tea in course of travel adds texture to the trek.
